PKR 20,000 a month · rooms included

A desk near Gulberg. No office to run.

WorkBench is a coworking space in Valencia Town, convenient to Gulberg. One monthly figure covers the desk, the internet, the power behind it and the rooms you book into. Nothing is left over for someone on your team to manage.

The open coworking floor at WorkBench, rows of shared desks with black mesh chairs under cone pendant lights, the 'teawok makes the dream work' wall art and the red phone booth at the back of the room.

What the number already covers

Six jobs, and not one of them yours.

An office is not the rent. It is the rent plus everything that keeps the rent useful, and every line below is already running before you arrive.

  • The connection, and the power under it

High speed internet with a generator and a UPS standing behind it. Nobody on your payroll spends a morning on the phone to a provider, and a power cut is not a day lost.

  • Rooms nobody bills you for

The board room, three huddle rooms and the pod room sit inside the membership, on a monthly allowance we are flexible about. Bringing a client in costs you the walk to the door.

  • A front desk you did not have to hire

Reception is staffed, there is a concierge around the clock, CCTV throughout and a security guard on site. Your visitor is met by somebody whose salary is not on your books.

  • The printer and its whole ecosystem

Printing is free, and there is photocopying and scanning as well. No cartridge to reorder, no service call to chase, no cupboard given over to reams of paper.

  • A pantry with a floor to itself

Unlimited tea and coffee, a vending machine, an office boy and an entire floor set aside for eating. That is a kitchen you never fitted, stocked or staffed.

  • The fit-out that is already finished

Desks, chairs, lighting and air conditioning, in place and working on the day you arrive. Nothing to specify, nothing to install and nothing to sell on when the team changes shape.

The thing people ask on the phone

Coworking, not a coffee shop.

It is a fair worry. Open plan can mean a room where nobody can hear themselves think. The answer is not a promise that everyone whispers, it is that the noise has been given somewhere else to be.

  • Calls leave the floor There are two calling booths and a pod room to take the conversation off the desks, so one long call does not tax the people sitting either side of it.
  • Meetings happen behind doors Three huddle rooms and a board room, all bookable through Pulse. The meeting that overruns does it behind a door rather than over the desks.
  • Lunch has its own address The cafeteria is a floor of its own. Food, and the talking that comes with food, happens a staircase away from anybody trying to concentrate.
  • So does the fun Table tennis and foosball both live in the game room, which is the point of having one. Neither of them is behind your chair.

Prefer the same seat every day? A dedicated desk is PKR 25,000 a month and stays yours whether or not you turn up for it.

The whole price list

Four lines, and every one is per person.

Nothing here is quoted by the square foot, so working out what your team costs is multiplication rather than a negotiation.

Sizing a room for the whole company? The seat count is multiplied out on the private offices page.

Fitted out already

The shopping list you are not writing.

Every one of these is standing in the building today. Costing each of them to buy, install, insure and keep working is the comparison worth doing.

What Gulberg callers ask

WorkBench is at 13-D, D Block, Valencia Town, Lahore 54784, which is convenient to Gulberg, and plenty of our members come from that side of town. Open the Google listing for directions, or ring 0311 2200818 and somebody will talk you through it.

A shared desk is PKR 20,000 a month and a dedicated desk PKR 25,000. A private room for the team is PKR 25,000 per seat monthly, so six people is six seats and not a floor.

No, it is inside the membership, against a monthly allowance the team is flexible about. Somebody who is not a member books the same rooms by the hour instead.

There are two calling booths, a pod room and three huddle rooms for exactly that, plus a board room, so calls come off the open floor instead of sitting on it.

Yes, it can serve as your registered business address. Ring 0311 2200818 before you file so the details are confirmed for your particular case.

A day pass at PKR 2,000, which opens every door a monthly member walks through. Spend one working day here before anybody commits to anything longer.

The last step before the spreadsheet

Price it with your own eyes.

Come on a working afternoon, while the floor is full, and see whether it is the room you thought coworking meant. Sit in a huddle room, count the desks, ask what your headcount actually comes to. Staffed 9AM to 9PM, Monday to Saturday.
